Hi, my name is Geert Allegaert. I’m active in the domain of Usability and User Centered Design (UCD) since 1993. UCD — sometimes also referred to as User eXperience Design (UXD), User Interface Design (UID) or Interaction Design (ID) — is the domain that focuses on a positive user experience with interactive applications.

Practically:

  • I design and evaluate user interfaces for online applications (web applications, stand-alone applications and mobile interfaces).
  • I design – complex – information and navigation structures for (international, multi-lingual) websites and intranets.

I combine skills from computer science, usability and library sciences.

I am familiar with the full range of UCD techniques and processes:

  • Field studies, contextual inquiry, ethnographic research.
  • Modeling users, processes and tasks. Developing conceptual designs for displaying user needs and behavior.
  • Documentation such as content inventory, sitemaps, wireframes, flow charts, functional specifications and style guides.
  • Usability testing and expert review.

I am aware of:

  • Industry standards and trends.
  • Web trends and techniques
  • Software development processes.

In the early years of my career I have worked as a technical writer. Hence my preference to communicate complex, technical information in plain language.

From 1993 to 2005 I was at Namahn and helped the company mature from a startup to the leading User Centered Design consultancy it is now.

At this moment I divide my time between conducting user surveys, providing UCD training for developers, and designing and optimizing websites and web applications.

I am serving a wide number of clients, varying from Belgian and European governmental institutions, over well-established commercial market leaders, to start ups. Interested in collaboration? Do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
